Thanks to all who have participated in past Fall Map Reading, Compass use and beginners O training events and made them a success. This event was started in 2000 and has been patterned after the end-of-October - New Jersey Scout "Orienteering" Champs. You will find more information about this April, 2007 event at www.scoutorienteering.com . This event offers age appropriate courses for Cub, Girl and Boy Scouts and provides free Map Reading training. Scout unit pre-registration is required.
The Garden State Scout O Fall #11 event is scheduled for Saturday, June 16, 2007 (this is a rescheduled date from April 15). Location will be at Holmdel County Park, Holmdel, NJ. This is a advance registration event, see info posted at www.scoutorienteering.com . Beginner 'map reading' training is available by DVOA members.
The Fall 2007 event will take place Sunday, Nov 4, at Quail Hill Scout Camp, Manalapan, New Jersey. The event director will again be Bob Rycharski <rrychars@csc.com> . Please direct inquiries to him. The map is a revised 1:5000 scale, 3 meter contour and color OCAD map, 2006 base map, field checked by DVOA in late 2005. Units interested in On-Site tent camping are asked to Call the Monmouth Council BSA office at (732) 536-2347, for campsite reservations while they last.
Any local Scouts interested in learning Orienteering course setting (BSA Orienteering Merit Badge requirements #9/8) are invited to contact the organizer, Bob Rycharski at 973-839-4095 at least 2 months prior to any scheduled event.
