I've listened, I've thought, and I've searched the newsgroups. I don't
think we and the fishes will make good company. I vote for the
rec.sport.orienteering name (although I will settle for rec.orienteering).

Does anyone know whether or not somone from DVOA will be making the
results of the Collier's Challenge and the Long-O Championships available
on WWW? If anyone from DVOA does plan to do this, will it be soon?

The only entry under rec.outdoors at my site is fishing.
Some of the "spectator" sports under rec.sport are billiards, disc,
fencing,
paintball, rowing, snowboarding and water-polo.
Wouldn't it make more sense just to call it rec.orienteering?

I have a friend that will be in Australia from November 16 to 20 and in
New Zealand from November 21 to 26. She is interested doing some
orienteering while there. Can someone provide information on upcoming
events. Thanks.

Having listened to this thread for a few days my vote is:
1) rec.orienteering
2) rec.sport.orienteering
I agree with other writers that rec.outdoors.* seems pretty dead.
However I think the important thing is that there's "orienteering" in the
title. When I came to the US I guessed at rec.running (or whatever it was),
found the FAQ, scanned it and then found orienteering - didn't take me long,
but it would've been much easier if orienteering was in the title.

RE>>Newsgroup name
Two years ago, I might have considered rec.outdoors.orienteering.
However, these days I feel strongly that rec.sport.orienteering is the
correct name.
Especially as we are now making a serious effort to get Ski Orienteering
into the Olympic Games.

I'd like to add another vote for rec.sport.orienteering, alternatively
directly under rec as rec.orienteering.

I train for it, I compete in it, I can get injured doing it.
In Europe, - and less frequently, in the USA - results are posted in
the sports section of the newspaper.
Sounds like a sport to me.
rec.sport.orienteering makes sense.

No, the runners newsgroup is simply rec.running
