There WAS an article in the news section of the largest circulation UK
newspaper (The Sun) on the day after the Classic final. If I recall
correctly, it was along the following lines:

"Swiss runner Alain Berger missed out on a medal at the world
orienteering championships in Scotland yesterday when he stopped 20 yards
SHORT of the line. The organiser said 'It was a tragic mistake'"

There are at least 3 mistakes and/or half-truths in that paragraph, but
it will have put mention of the sport in front of perhaps 4 million
readers who might not have heard of it!

Politics, jiggery pokery & orienteering mixed
together..........unbelievable, never heard so much nonsense in my life! I
have been involved with orienteering for more years than I care to remember
and not once has even the tiniest bit of political shenanigans come to my
attention......................and if you believe that you'll believe those
that say WOC 99 was a glowing success and that the opening ceremony went of
without a hitch!!

I can think of only one Scotsman capable of mustering that kind of reply,
but as I know that he is no longer young and indeed may, even as I speak, be
heading towards a certain softness in the head brought about, I am sure, by
repetitive claymore stress syndrome or RCSS if you will, then I shall
refrain from indulging in my more naturally aggressive style and instead
wish him a Merry Xmas and a happy new millennium.

The great man may be unaware that I was "up his way" last May attempting to
prove that age does not necessarily wither one's infinite physical
loveliness, by "doing" the TGO Challenge.

I shall be "at it again" in May 2000, always providing that Roger Smith can
be persuaded to allow the transcontinental transaction.

Richard McCorbett = a man known to dislike haggis.

By the way, you wouldn't be trying to tell me that there is no political
jiggery pokery going on in Orienteering would you?

Now now.........lets not get into political opinion on the grand scale on
the O Net..........particularly not slagging off one of the great
governments of our country!

If only Maggie were still in place instead of Mr Slimeball & his puppets in
Westminster & Edinburgh.......
