Subject: Lack of Fieldcheckers in US
Message-ID: <19990823.205909.15934.0.sidneysachs@juno.com>
My local club could not obtain the service of a fieldchecker last winter
for four small maps that we wanted to do. I checked with an employee of
our Department of State on how to bring foreign mappers into our country.
I was told there were several different ways it could be done. However
each required first collecting additional information to prove that there
is a shortage of field checkers in this country. I am willing to collect
the required information. To begin with, I will have to compile two
lists, one for field checking projects and another of all American field
checkers. With the lists and some other information, then it may be
possible of bringing in one or more field checkers from oversea to take
care of the surplus of projects.
To gathers the first list, I will like each club e-mail to me their list
of mapping projects, sizes in square kilometers, rather or not it is for
a national event, the estimate time to do the field checking, a time
frame for finishing the map, who they are having (with an e-mail address
of the field checker if any) and an e-mail address to write to the club.
I will like to have the name and e-mail address of all field checkers in
the United States that you already asked.
In order to assemble the second list which will include the name of each
field checker and amount of time they have available. I would like
every field checker to e-mail me with their e-mail address, the number of
weeks they planned for field checking each year, and for which club they
are already going to do mapping for. This list should also include those
that are no longer doing any field checking.
The lists will be available to others in order to match as many of
projects up with field checkers. When there is enough information, I can
try one or two different approaches for getting additional mappers into
the United States. At that time I will gather a third list of mappers
who will be willing to come here.
