Subject: Hudson Highlander V Field Filling Up
Message-ID: <19990629.060135.7575.0.hvo@juno.com>

Hudson Valley Orienteering has announced that the entries are coming in,
and the field is filling fast, for the fifth annual Hudson Highlander, to
be held on Sunday, October 10th.

The Hudson Highlander has quickly established a reputation as North
America's premier ultra-distance orienteering race. Once again this year,
a strong international field is taking shape, with each entrant keen on
preventing two-time defending champion Eric Cyr of Canada from making it
three straight. Interested orienteers planning on entering are urged to
do so soon. The field is limited in size, and last year's starters are
guaranteed a place in the field if they postmark their registration by
September 25th.

This year's Highlander will have all the features - commemorative gifts
to finishers, post race barbecue, and the King and Queen of the Mountain
and of the Sprint competitions - that keeps most orienteers who have
raced in it coming back year after year. Thanks to technology, a couple
of new wrinkles have been added this year. Interested orienteers can
contact the meet director to ask a question about the meet or their entry
at HH-5@att.net, an address dedicated solely to this year's meet. And,
for those with internet access, checking out the latest information about
the meet is easy to do by going to the HVO web site at
http://www.geocities.com/Yosemite/8761 and clicking on the link for the
Hudson Highlander page.

Thanks to the interest in the race and the incredible job the members and
friends of HVO have done in staffing the Highlander every year, the
maximum field size for this year's field has been increased to 100.
Between the high number returnees that are anticipated (and are
guaranteed a spot in the field if their entry is postmarked by September
25th), newcomers we already know about (West Point hopes to send a much
larger contingent this year, for example...are you listening Annapolis?
the Citadel?), and the entries that have already been received, it is
expected that the 1999 field will fill up in advance of race day. So, if
you have been thinking about entering, don't delay. All the entry
information you need follows below. If you have any questions, please
don't hesitate to contact Melissa Dominguez, the 1999 Hudson Highlander
Meet Director.

The organizers reserve the right to limit the field to 100 entrants.
Starters in 1998's Hudson Highlander IV, who postmark their entries by
Saturday, September 25th, are guaranteed a place in this year's field.

Entry fees:
For starters in the 1998 race, its $20 if postmarked on or before
September 25th; $24 if postmarked after that.
For all other entrants, its $24 if postmarked on or before
September 25th; $30 if postmarked after that.

The Hudson Highlander features...a commemorative gift to all orienteers
who finish in 8 hours or less. Past gifts have included a sweatshirt,
sweatpants, a nylon jacket, and last year's athletic shorts...plenty of
food at the post-race 'pasta barbecue', at no extra charge to the
participants...staffed aid stations on the course...additional water
stops in the woods...the 'King and Queen of the Mountain' competition, an
uphill timed leg, with the winners receiving special commemorative
jerseys...Additional commemorative jerseys to the mens and womens winners
of 'The Sprint', aka the trail run.

To enter, please send your name, postal address, e.mail address*, phone
number, orienteering club*, year of birth, and usual clothing size, on
the S-M-L-XL-XXL scale, for a sweatshirt and a pair of warm-up pants (so,
should the commemorative gift be something to wear, we can ballpark a
fairly accurate estimate of the sizes we will need to order)- along with
your check made payable to 'HVO' - to:

Melissa Dominguez
300 Pelham Road - Apt. 1L
New Rochelle, NY 10805

If you would like to leave a phone message for Melissa, you may do so by
calling the 'HVO Hotline' at (973)625-0499. And, remember...your entry is
not officially received until we have both your entry information and
your check.

An article about Orienteering and RMOC was in the Denver Post's Lifestyle section this last Sunday.

It seems like I do nothing but respond to e-mail and answer calls ever since. I am not complaining though!

Superb. Absolutely brilliant system for analysing races. Thanks very much for
allowing me to analyse my results in the Scottish 6 day - I hope more events go
on your site in the future.
