Without the copyright of your map, you can do nothing to intervene if an
itinerant group puts on an event (informal or training or whatever) using
photocopies of an old map on your prime area for which you are planning a major
event.  The group trample over sensitive area of the terrain that you were
planning to avoid for your courses.  The landowner is incensed and withdraws
permission for your event.  If you own copyright, you can at least argue your
case with the landowner.
